JAMB No Longer Required For Admission Into Tertiary Institutions In Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria just announced that JAMB Is No Longer Required For Admission Into Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

Just in, Nigeria FG Bans JAMB, according to the press release, as reported. JAMB is no longer a requirement for admission into tertiary institutions, says the Federal Government.

Proceeding, the Federal Government has made it easier for students to gain admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of their choice across Nigeria.

This new policy aims to increase access to higher education for all Nigerians, following the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Student Loan “NELFUND” which is 100% accessible, available to all Nigerian students across the 36 states and FCT Abuja. Both initiatives were introduced under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.

Every year, millions of students write JAMB, but only a small number are admitted. The government believes the problem is not with the students, but with the strict JAMB admission rules, now left unchanged.

With the new reform, institutions can now admit students based on their SSCE results. For universities, students must have at least five credits in relevant subjects, including English. Mathematics is only required for science, technology, and social science courses, respectively.

To gain admission into ND programs in polytechnics, students need at least four credits, including English, while for HND programs, five credits are required, including English and Mathematics.

This policy is designed to reduce barriers stopping most Nigerian students from gaining admission, and now giving more students a fair chance at continuing their education.

This does NOT cancel JAMB/UTME for 2025, but reduces its power as the only way to gain admission. Schools now have more freedom to admit based on SSCE results (like WAEC/NECO and GCE). See Below An Attached copy of the press release, and please share across the social media platforms.
