This Is Good News To The Eastern Nigerians As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Approved The Establishment Of The South East Investment Company (SEIC)

For the interest of those not aware or not much familiar with what the South East Investment Company (SEIC) stands for.

Know that the South East Investment Company (SEIC) is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established under the South East Development Commission (SEDC) in Nigeria.

With presidential approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the SEIC is designed to mobilize private-sector capital to accelerate industrialization and boost regional competitiveness in Nigeria’s South-Eastern region.

The SEIC operates as a subsidiary of the SEDC, with a projected capital base of over ₦150 billion, focusing on a private-sector-led approach to regional development, communities, and human capital development across the eastern Nigerian states.

This did not come as a surprise to most people who have been following the trend, even as a few personalities from eastern Nigeria took to social media to write congratulatory messages to the Nigerian president for launching the South-East Investment Company (SEIC):

The approval and the establishment of the South-East Investment Company (SEIC), as a federal government-backed investment vehicle under the newly formed South East Development Commission (SEDC), is being described as a critical step toward closing decades-long economic gaps in Nigeria’s South-East region.

With a projected capital base of N150 billion, the SEIC is tasked with mobilizing private sector funds, boosting industrialization, and driving inclusive growth in the zone”.

This is commendable. Largely, SEIC could be a management company that will work with technical partners to execute catalytic and pivotal projects in eastern Nigeria.

Hopefully, people of the southeast will start witnessing some strides in development. Among such attractive developments is the long-awaited plan for Southeast Railways to link all the states in the region.

Also, people of the southeast are expecting to have a Southeast Post to ensure that they have an efficient supply chain system.

Not stopping there, the South East Investment Company (SEIC) is expected to invest in gas pipelines that will link all major cities in the Southeast, as without energy, there will not be long-term development across the region.

So the region is focusing on these core areas of development, and with good implementations, we are hoping it will be achieved.

Not only leaving marginal domains like real estate development, modern hospitals, telecoms infrastructure, effective education, and human capital development, etc, as if you deal with the anchors like railways, postal services, and energy, private investors, and town unions will converge and develop those areas as expected.

As we believe developing the Southeast can only happen this way, as the individual states cannot execute major projects within their domains. Nigeria developed fastest when it was structured regionally!

Unlike the Abia State Diaspora Commission, which is exploring the concept of unveiling Abia Diasporas Corporation Plc, a vehicle to drive development through private investments, with the understanding that all citizens of the world are Abians, since Abia is the God’s Own State (and God’s Own People!). They jokingly state

The Commission plans to explore strategic partnerships with SEIC/SEDC as the playbooks advance in fast-developing Abia state.

According to them, in Abia, we have noted that linking all LGA headquarters with rail tracks will drive the development of rural communities since access to markets, efficient logistics, etc, will accelerate economic outputs.

The strides went across other eastern states, like Anambra, Enugu, Imo, and Ebonyi State, are set to work with SEIC/SEDC in developing Eastern Nigeria only, but time will tell how successful this program will be. Hopefully, the goal and mission will be achieved
