When The Future Is AI Literacy (DO THIS)

There was a time when the future was on financial literacy, then to the digital age, computer literacy, and now the world is fast approaching AI Literacy, and you reading this should try to embrace AI technology irrespective of your discipline and the country you are reading this from.

Just as computer literacy was necessary for all, AI literacy is fast becoming very much necessary for all.

So, back to “financial literacy,” we fast approach “AI literacy, Some people, when they hear about AI, feel and think AI is coming to take away their jobs.

So some people are very much afraid of the AI, people are scared of the AI Future, and in reality, don’t be afraid of the future with AI.

Now let’s go back to history, now imagine that someone who lived 400 years ago (1625) were to come back to earth for a week’s visit.

What would he or she observe? Imagine he meets a football player and asks him, “What do you do?” and the player answers!!

“My job is to PLAY football”.

“What do you mean, play? How is that a job?” the person pressed him with more questions just to understand better.

Then he would meet a guy who is a trader at the stock exchange: “And what do you do?”

“I trade all day”. “Where are your goods?”

I mean, I trade NFTs and cryptocurrency.

“I have never seen them and never will”. [Yes, there are virtual products, and I do that 99% online!]

Is that what you do for a living? Yes, SIR Or a guy who says he slept whilst traveling between continents!

The point I want you to see is that the meaning of work is always evolving with each generation adapting to something different.

For those who lived 400 years ago, work was manual and 100% physical, but today, with machines, manual work is almost always being eliminated or reduced.

You and I would argue that a guy who plays football works very hard, but to someone 400 years ago, how does he even conceptualise the work of competitive play, or trade in the invisible?!

People who wonder about job losses due to AI advanced technology or any other technology often forget that these technologies eventually usher in new types of jobs that we cannot even imagine today. Or at least most people can’t…

Now, what is the way forward? The answer is simple: always adapt to the future, don’t be stagnant, learn, practice, and follow the trend.

This I know: Most of you will be doing jobs in the next 5 to 10 years that have not been invented yet!

This morning, I read a report which showed that the most sought-after people by employers are those with “AI literacy” and noted they are now generally commanding almost 60% higher salary levels than those with no “AI literacy”. That is the reality, and where the job marketing is fast-paced in the next decades.

The report also projected that within five years, employers will get rid of workers without AI literacy in some parts of the world, and it will spread across the world within 10 years.

Now think about it for a moment. Does it “scare” you? Yes Or Now!!

There is nothing you can do to slow it down, except to “flow with it” as Eric Schmidt, one of the most respected entrepreneurs, recently said.

We should start SkillingUp; both the young, adult, and old should please skill up. It’s also up to you to make sure your kids are learning 4IR skills, and… that their schools are #Teaching them!]

It only takes about six weeks [for adults] to gain basic AI Literacy and six months to get certifiable AI literacy skills… those you can use to get a job.

If you are a student, a marketer, or even an entrepreneur, AI is infusing every industry, and I believe that within a year, no investor will invest in a business in which the promoters have no AI literacy skills.

Don’t say I did not tell you. I’m not here to comfort you whilst others eat your lunch. Get set, make plans, and start learning AI literacy.

Even at my age and level of awareness, I’m encouraging everyone to please be keen to #SkillUp in AI.  I have been doing it for a number of years now, and people now even invite me to speak at conferences as an “expert,” even though I’m totally self-taught.

Much of this stuff is so simple… Don’t “fear from a distance” [as my mother would say]. To become functional in AI, you don’t need an engineering degree or technical background. Take the example of the pictures we use for most of these FB Posts, most of which are today AI-generated. Hope have you even noticed that many are generated by AI?

Those people don’t exist! A member of my team who loves photography taught herself how to do these images using AI over a few days; yes, days!  [Hint: get started by learning the “art” of writing a #Prompt!]

Now she has completed a full online certified course and is AI-literate, with another course in progress! Do yourself a favour: starting today, pay attention to “AI literacy”… before it’s too late.
