Shoprite Is Set To Close Operation In Kano State Nigeria From January 2024

 

Not so good development as Shoprite Mall Announced they will stop operation in Kano State Nigeria From January 2024 

 

This sad development will increase the unemployment rates among innocent Nigerians in Today Nigeria’s hard economy

 

The news has been confirmed that: Shoprite Mall Kano State branch In Nigeria has announced to close its operation in the state from 14th Of January 2024

 

This announcement was contained in a circular memo signed by the management of the retail supermarket on Thursday this week as obtained by Nairalearn. See photo footage of the memo below

Shoprite Set To Close Operation In Kano State

The mall, located in Bayero Kano State in the northern region and the most populous state in Nigeria, said it would not continue its operations in the state

 

They are stopping operations due to the current financial situation of the mall in the state as well as the difficulty in doing business in an environment like Nigeria.

 

This development is coming on the heels of the current announcement by Jumia Food to cease operation in Nigeria by the end of December 2023

 

They are also citing burgeoning economic challenges and the high cost of operation in the country

 

Not just Jumia Food and Shoprite Kano state branch alone, also Procter & Gamble (P&G) last week exited its operation in Nigeria, and many other companies/businesses that have left Nigeria just this year

As seen in the memo, Shoprite Mall Supermarket noted that the decision is regrettable even to them as a company, however necessary, hinting that all the employees working at the mall will be laid off once it closes operation in the northern state.

 

When asked how many employees? they replied was about direct hundreds of employees and thousands of undirect employees are set to lose their jobs

 

Furthermore, the company writes to Kano state residents, to all their customers “They regret that our store in Ado Bayero Mall, Kano, will be closing its doors on January 14, 2024. 

 

This decision was not made lightly, as we understand the impact it may have on our employees and the community. However, after careful evaluation of the financial situation of the store/mall and the current business situation across the country, we believe that it is the best cause of action for the long-term growth of our organization.

 

“We understand that this news may be difficult to digest. We want to assure you that we are here to support you during this transitional period

 

To our former employees, you remain our top priority, and we will do everything we can to assist you in finding new job opportunities within our company in other states across the country

 

We encourage you to apply for any vacant position in other of our existing stores/malls across the country through the Human Resources department. As The Statement Further Reads In Part.

 

Meanwhile, the store/mall indicated that there will be more jobs opening in their new branches in other parts of the country

 

Yes we plan to open new branches in some other states in Nigeria, where some of our employees in Kano can still apply for job positions

 

“Additionally, we are opening/operating new stores/malls in the upcoming months and you all are welcome to apply for employment there as well,” the statement outlined.

Francis Dufay, the CEO of Jumia, noted that the company has decided to divert its capital resources to other ventures within the company all to keep striving,

 

“Food delivery remains a business with very challenging economics, in Africa Nigeria, as well as some parts of the world, and we want to focus our efforts on our physical goods e-commerce business
